Teamsters Denounce House Joint Resolution

Eliminating Protections for Federal Contractor Workers

(WASHINGTON) – The Teamsters Union denounced the signing of House Joint Resolution 37 today, which eliminates the worker protections put in place by the Obama administration through the Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces Executive Order.

Signed in July 2014, Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces EO established clear guidelines for federal agencies to implement when reviewing companies for government contracts. Under the executive order, companies that contracted with the government were held accountable for violating workplace laws. The executive order also put in place regulations that addressed key issues workers are faced with on the job at federal contractors including wage theft, safety violations and discrimination.

“Every worker deserves strong protections on the job,” said Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa. “This is a very disappointing development since the Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces Executive Order not only protected workers at federal contractors, but ensured that our tax dollars were not going to be given to companies that violate labor law.”
